DISPATCHWORK
Action, collective ephemeral intervention in public space, photo collage
Dispatch – to send somebody away to do something: to instruct somebody to go somewhere in order to carry out a task
Patchwork or “pieced work” – a form of work that involves putting together smaller pieces into a larger design
The action of distributing chalk to passers-by took place during 10 days in the crowded pedestrian zones, public squares, in front of schools and similar.
Big amounts of chalk were distributed with the assumption that the receiver will use it on some of the street-surfaces.
The whish was to incite closeness with the public space through playfulness, to encourage an active role of a citizen as space inventor/creator/user, and metaphorically, to emphasize the role of individual participation in a collective (social) texture.
